Gladiolus "Gladio" - FFXV- Fanime 2017

Gladio marked the start of me wanting to push myself again. By nature props are "easier" to make than armor in the sense that there is no drama with trying to wear it. I decided to make Gladio in order to see if I could make something so detail dense.

I apologize in advance but my old phone died and I have, as a result, lost the pictures for the build but I have a few backed up. Apologies that it's not as thorough as it could have been.

I used the figure as a reference. I was informed about 2/3 into the build of the FFXV Fan Kit. THAT WOULD HAVE HELPED. But whatever.

Generated a pattern using the figure pic.

Used a piece of wood and mounted the beginnings of the blade to the wood. Blade is PVC.

Placed the blade bevels.

Bondo to clean up the seams. Added PVC details at the bottom.

Made another set of "boxes" to have a point of reference to lay down detail later. Put down cardstock patterns to get a sense of scale.

Made the center sword. Gave it a beveled appearance by lifting it with a 1/4" PVC piece underneath. Cut trim with 3mm PVC. Cut circle detail and rings with circle cutting jig (board with nail in it).

Hand cramping incoming: cut out 3mm PVC for the clam clamp looking details and carved texture.

Build so far. Sketching details to plan out my next moves.

The hilt details were difficult and took me awhile to figure out. Cardstock planning stage.

Here I am laying down the hilt detail. Carving details some places, just kind of making it up in others.

Build so far.

Cutting out the "feather" details on the hilt.

Adding them to the hilt after sanding. Apoxie sculpting the skull detail.

Build before priming.

Priming

First coat. Ignore the other project lol

Second coat

Last coat!

All coats applied

No pictures but OwlDepot detail painted the sword.

Finished product!

Fire Emblem - Ike- Fanime 2016

I am not sure why I made Ike, he really seems out of place when it comes to what I have wanted to do. I will be honest this was a period of time when I was pretty lazy in my cosplay in the sense that I didn't really want to break new ground anymore.

Enough personal stuff.

Here's the references I started with.

I used the sword from the art in order to draft a pattern.

I started by drafting the pattern from card stock and masking tape.

Cut, heat formed and super glued the shoulder piece.

The knee was a little bit of a challenge. Here are the patterns I used and the subsequent pieces.

The rest of the armor was relatively easy. Added acrylic trim.

Ok so here is the part I was pretty excited to do. Ike's sword Ragnell.

Started with a paper pattern from the reference image.

Cut the base from plywood and some PVC for the blade.

Glued the PVC, applied bondo to the blade bevels. Cardstock pattern for the hilt.

Here is how I attached the hilt. Cutting a channel through it and gluing to the handle then layering with PVC to hide the seam.

Made pommel from Bondo. You can see that I hid the seam with a top layer of PVC.

Added details on top of the hilt with 3mm PVC. Clean up with Apoxie Sculpt.

Pommel done with PVC and Bondo.

Added a final detail with PVC and acrylic extrusion.

Priming

Painting.
